THE STORY
Hired during the peak of magazine publishing—before the digital revolution sliced and diced the industry up—I spent much time complaining about the famous EIC's obnoxious cigar smoke we were forced to endure while waiting for stories to input. The lovely workers of Production were the magazine's figurative fire department. When the work did flow in and deadlines loomed, the room was ablaze. And nothing beats being in-house when finding out the secret story was the identity of Nixon's Watergate / Washington Post's 'deep throat.' A political nerd's dream.
